Dear Members,

The dust has now settled on New year celebrations and most – of not all of us – are returning to their daily routines.

Membership

Icon of St James (Tiziana Farrugia) and Conchas

We have started 2023 with a registered membership of just over 200. We thank you for your continued support as this helps us develop further heritage hiking projects. Social Media (FB) membership exceeds 1,200. We urge our social media members that are not yet registered members to also join as registered members. Almost all of our activities are open only to registered members.

Introduction | Local Walks Activities

Wied l-Qlejja Wed Walk

XirCammini will also be recommencing its walks on Saturday and Wednesday walks on Saturday, 7th January 2023. Our next walk is in Manikata and on the Inbordin / Pwales / Pilgrim trail / Mizieb back to Manikata. Please save the Events tab on your mobile phone home-screen so that you always have up-to-date information of our walks ‘on tap’ from the primary source. The events have been updated with meeting places as well.

Since most of our events are only open to XirCammini members, if anyone wishes to bring a guest please inform us beforehand. Thank you.

Unless we need to book transport or incur some other expense or have space constrictions, there is no need to notify us when intending to participate in our walks locally. All you have to do is turn up. Please note that we try to leave on time every time, i.e. 14:00 on Saturday and 19:00 on Wednesday. So please be there before.

Registration is still open for the 9 – 12th Feb trekking / snow-shoeing event in Sicily. Recommended flight details are included on the event tab. Because morning flights are no longer available, we are also offering local transport in Sicily for those coming on the evening AirMalta flight on the 9th Feb. Please follow this link to register and pay. For those who have already registered and paid the deposit, we will shortly be following up to collect the balance (and remit to VaiColTrekking).

The Camino is calling you: Registrations are piling up at a steady rate for both the Via de La Plata (25th – 31st March 2023) and the the Porto option or Valenca/Tui option of the Camino Portugues (31st Mar – 14th April 2023 or 5th – 14th Apr 2023). Please follow the above links learn more about them or to register and settle the deposit.

The Pantelleria trekking event in May did not garner sufficient interest among members when we held the poll. So, for this year we are removing it from the Calendar and hope to run it again in future.

From the 28th May to the 10th of June we are walking the Cammino di San Francesco, led by Fr Walter Vassallo ofm. This promises to be an incredibly beautiful experience morphing nature, culture, history, heritage and spirituality only as Italy knows how to offer. Because it is the first time that we are running it we are capping numbers at 14 participants. If you are interested please register early by following this link to avoid disappointment.

From June 29th to July 5th, 2023 we will be embarking on a trekking and white water rafting experience in Pollino and Sila. Places are limited to 24 persons and registration is open by following this link and settling the deposit.

The Tochar Phadraig and Cliffs of Moher event, Ireland,  is currently fully booked but we are retaining a waiting list for those who may be interested. However, please do not be too disappointed if no one drops off the current attendance list. Private message us if you are interested.

We will update you on later events, i.e. Transumanza in Italy and the San Salvador in Spain in later newsletters.

We end by telling you that we are looking forward to catching up with you shortly on our events.
