2-day Round Gozo Challenge (registration required)
The “2-Day Round Gozo Challenge” is a 53-kilometre hiking event designed for individuals preparing for overseas hiking expeditions such as the Camino, or those looking to reconnect with fellow hiking enthusiasts, or simply those who wish to disconnect from the daily hustle and bustle. This challenge offers a unique opportunity to traverse Gozo’s diverse coastal landscapes, including harbours, defensive structures, cliffs, beaches, hills, and valleys. It serves as excellent training for future long-distance walks, fosters camaraderie, and allows participants to experience the historical and natural beauty of Gozo.
The event is carefully planned to cover the circumference of Gozo over two days in a safe manner. The journey commences at 08:30 a.m. on 21st February 2026 from Mgarr Harbour, with the initial leg of the walk proceeding towards Hondoq ir-Rummien. The first day’s trek concludes in Marsalforn. XirCammini will arrange one night’s accommodation on a twin-sharing bed and breakfast (B&B) basis for participants. On the second day, the walk resumes from Marsalforn, continuing back to Mgarr, always along Gozo’s scenic coast, with participants returning to Malta in the evening of 22nd February 2026.
Event Details and Logistics
The challenge is structured to provide a comprehensive experience of Gozo’s coastal paths. The total distance covered is approximately 53 kilometres, making it a significant physical undertaking suitable for those with some hiking experience or a desire to build endurance. The route is carefully selected to showcase the island’s varied topography and scenic vistas. Participants are advised to prepare adequately for a multi-day hike (including appropriate footwear, clothing, and personal supplies). While accommodation is provided for one night, participants are responsible for their gear and any additional food or drink beyond the B&B arrangement. The event’s focus on training and camaraderie makes it an ideal choice for both seasoned hikers and those looking to push their limits in a supportive group environment.
Price | Deposit
Applicants will receive an invoice with the price payable in two instalments (deposit and balance) with dates indicated on the invoice. The price of this trip includes the participation fee, local (Gozo) transport and/or daily baggage transfers (as applicable), and accommodation on a shared, twin-room B&B basis (single supplement can be quoted if requested).
