Bulgaria, a captivating nation nestled in the Balkan Mountains, offers a rich tapestry of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for an immersive travel experience. Bordered by the Black Sea to the east and the Danube River to the north, this country presents a diverse landscape perfect for exploring ancient archaeological sites, embarking on invigorating hikes of natural beauty, and indulging in exquisite local gastronomy and wine.
Our planned hiking expedition is scheduled for the last week of April / early May, with the exact dates remaining flexible to optimise flight connections. During this 7-day immersion, our itinerary is designed to provide a comprehensive experience of Bulgaria’s highlights. We will begin by exploring Sofia, the vibrant capital city, before venturing to Plovdiv, a city renowned for its ancient history and medieval charm. Beyond urban exploration, our journey will take us into the heart of Bulgaria’s natural wonders, including hiking expeditions in the majestic Rhodope Mountains and other picturesque natural parks and forests. For those seeking an adrenaline rush, an adventure sport activity is also on the agenda. A cultural cornerstone of our trip will be a visit to the reputed Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its stunning architecture and spiritual significance. Savouring authentic local cuisine and sampling Bulgaria’s renowned wines provides us, literally, with a true taste of the country.

Applicants will be informed of these. The dates indicated in the event Calendar are tentative and may vary slightly, depending on the availability of flights. The dates below indicate the “time window”.

Note: XirCammini is a membership-based Camino/hiking association and not a travel agency. Hence, XirCammini does not book flights. Where applicable, XirCammini engages Walk.mt Ltd or other licensed travel operators for licensed incoming/outgoing travel agency requirements.
Price | Deposit
Applicants will receive an invoice with the price payable in two instalments (deposit and balance) with dates indicated on the invoice. The price of this trip covers local transport and/or daily baggage transfers in Bulgaria and accommodation on a shared, twin-room B&B basis (single supplement can be quoted if requested). Price also includes extensive local training, an information session, and a trek leader.
