Our Camino, stretching from outside the vibrant city of Aberdeen (Cove Bay) to the historic Arbroath Abbey (once dedicated to St. Thomas Becket) offers an unparalleled journey through the heart of Scotland’s stunning northeastern coastline. This captivating camino blends spiritual reflection with an immersive experience of raw natural beauty, ancient history, and charming coastal life. Imagine embarking on a path where every turn reveals a new vista: dramatic cliffs plunging into the North Sea, picturesque fishing villages with their colourful boats bobbing in the harbours or resting on their sides in low tide, and the haunting silhouettes of centuries-old castles standing sentinel against the elements. This route is not merely a walk; it’s a historical narrative etched into the landscape, and a spiritual awakening for those who seek it. The crisp air and the scent of salt and heather, the sounds are a symphony of crashing waves, or pitter-patter of light rain, the cries of seabirds, and the gentle murmur of Scottish accents constantly engage the senses, promising an unforgettable adventure for pilgrims and hikers alike.
This coastal walk is a relatively new, yet rapidly gaining recognition, long-distance walking route inspired by ancient pilgrimage paths such as St Ducthac’s, St. Columba’s and the pilgrimage from the Northeast of Scotland to Abroath Abbey and onward to St. Andrews. While the traditional St. Duthac pilgrimage route historically led to Tain, this coastal iteration offers a distinct and equally enriching experience. We will begin our journey in Aberdeen Cove Bay, outside the ancient city renowned for its granite architecture and bustling harbour, and then winds our way south along the Aberdeenshire and Angus coastlines. The path meanders through a diverse tapestry of landscapes, from the rugged cliffs of the Aberdeenshire Coastal Path to the sandy beaches and fertile farmlands of Angus, promising raw and outstanding natural beauty.
