I have walked my fourth Camino in Sardinia ( Sant’Antioco), following my previous ones in Sicily ( San Giacomo), and Spain (last 120km section of the Camino Norte), and the Camino Maltes (in Malta).

The Sant’ Antioco Cammino was special. We practically walked around the beautiful island of Sant’ Antioco during the 677th annual feast celebrating the saint that honours his name. So, apart from experiencing the natural beauty that the island is blessed with, with countless gorgeous beaches and lovely terrain during the day, we were regaled with a feast of Sardinian culture and history during the evenings, making our five days in these islands truly remarkable.

We were also blessed with glorious weather for mid-April, where the sun shone throughout the Camino, allowing us the privilege of ending each of our three walking days to cool off at the lovely beaches of Maladroxia and Calasetta, a welcome rewarding dip after walking through Spiagga Coaquaddus, Cala Raja, Cala Sapone, Cala Lunga, the Spiagga Grande -Tonnara and Spiaggia sotto il Torre.
Spring was also kind to us as our walks in the countryside made the fields bloom with pretty, colourful wild flowers all along our route, and if that wasn’t colourful enough, the earth gifted us colourful layers of sedimentary rock a few kilometres before reaching Faro Mangiabarche.

But our wonderful experience in Sant’Antioco wasn’t made possible only by the beauty the islands possess; it was also amplified by the lovely people who call this beautiful place home, notably Marina Scibilia, Rolando and Camillo!
And the majority of the pilgrims in our Maltese and American group also went out for a special fishing trip at sea, where they feasted on the freshly caught fish.

It was indeed another extremely well-organised Caminoby XirCammini group, Malta, led by the inspiring and history guru James Portelli.
I sincerely hope that at 66 years old this won’t be my last Camino, and I take this opportunity to thank all the pilgrims who shared these four walks in as many years with me – your presence, respect, support, patience, encouragement and positivity made the experiences so much memorable.
