We walked the Camino Português from Vigo to Santiago de Compostela to celebrate my 60th birthday. We stopped overnight in every town. Vigo, Arcade, Pontevedra, Caldes de Rei, Padron and finally in Santiago de Compostela. The experience was amazing as you get to meet other people from all nations and from different walks of life and different ages and share your experience. It helped me to find my inner self, pray and thank God for everything in life that was provided for me, mostly health, a loving family, and respect.

My husband and I also had the opportunity to do some catching up on our relationship and plan ahead, knowing that we are soon nearing retirement age. We plan to travel more and walk more caminos. The walks were beautiful…the first two days we were very enthusiastic and walked mostly on the road by the sea. The last 3 days were in the forests and country. It was beautiful and since we are not used to such greenery in my country I truly enjoyed every step. The sound of the birds, footsteps of other trekkers, water flowing in the lakes. The highlight was reaching Santiago with all the other pilgrims. The feeling and experience there was indescribable. We heard mass in the evening with lots of other pilgrims and we went round the old quaint city. The cathedral there was also enchanting. On the whole it was a fantastic experience which will remain the highlight of my 60th. Thank you XirCammini for such an opportunity.
