DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED \n12th March 2023 will be the 480th Anniverary of the Universal Peace Walk 1543AD. It will also mark the launch of the Malta segment of the first Camino Maltés. \nWe will be offering both walks i.e. \n\n The Universal Peace Walk 1543AD is a 28km walk. This is a historic walk from Citta Notabile (Mdina) to Le Terre di Santa Caterina (Zejtun); or\nThe Camino Maltés is a 34km walk from St Paul’s Catacombs / St Paul’s Grotto\, Rabat to Fort St. Angelo.\n\nThis is the itinerary: \n\nFor those intending to walk the Camino Maltés: 07:00 a.m coach pick-up from Birgu for an 08:15 Camino Start in Rabat\nFor those intending to walk the Universal Peace Walk 1543AD: 07:30 a.m. coach Pick up from Zejtun for an 08:30 a.m. Start from Mdina\n08:00a.m.: Camino Maltés starts from Rabat\n08:30 a.m.: Universal Peace Walk 1543AD starts from Cathedral Square Mdina when the Camino Maltés pilgrims arrive.\nAllow time for lunch in Zurrieq\, we should be able to make it to Zejtun by 16:00 and Fort St Angelo by 17:30.\n\nWe park our cars in Birgu  (near Fort St. Angelo or Zejtun (near St. Gregory’s church) at 06:45 a.m. or 07:15 respectively and coach transport will take us to Rabat or Mdina leaving Fort St. Angelo or Zejtun for Mdina at 07:00 or 07:30 a.m. respectively. For those not requiring transport\, we meet outside St Paul’s Catacombs or Mdina Cathedral Square for a 08:00 a.m or 08:30 a.m. start. \nA non-refundable deposit of €5 – €10 is requested to reserve your place. If you wish to walk with us and get a certificate then the contribution would be €5. If\, in addition to this\, you also require transport from Birgu or Zejtun to Mdina in the morning. then the total contribution increases to €10 to cover transport. Therefore\, one can still join by taking the KM3646 in the evening\, leaving Malta at 22:20 and arriving in Catania at 23:00. Transport will deliver you to the accommodation to join the group from the 1st night and to snow-shoe and trek the vineyards on the 10th\, 11th and 12th of Feb. The late evening return flight of the 12th Feb at time of posting this is also still available. \nOn February 9th we arrive in Catania in early morning on KM640 leaving Malta at 06:10 a.m. (flights not included). \nFrom Catania we travel North to visit/trek in Tindari and Marinello. In the late afternoon we travel to Villa Miraglia for an overnight stay and a snow-shoe trek. \nOn the 11th Feb we check out of Villa Miraglia and travel to Le Vigne Regaliali for 2 days of trekking (11th and 12th Feb) and an overnight stay on the wine estate. \nWe return to Malta on KM643 via Catania at 22:20. \nThere are only 22 places available on this trekking activity. DESCRIPTION:The Camino de Santiago\, also known as the Way of St James\, is a 1000 year old plus network of pilgrims’ ways leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain. It is done by more than 300\,000 people on averageper year and may be completed via a pan-European network of routes. \nMalta was missing from this network\, however\, through a joint initiative between the Government of Malta and Xircammini\, Malta is now connected to the world-famous Camino de Santiago de Compostela. In fact Malta now has it’s own pilgrim route titled Camino Maltés de Santiago de Compostela\, (in short Camino Maltés) which has been justified on historical grounds. The Camino Maltés starts internally from Rabat to Birgu\, then to Sicily\, Sardinia\, Barcelona and ultimately ends at Santiago de Compostela in Galicia\, Spain. \nThe scope of this information session is to provide information on: (i) the work required to produce the ‘Camino Maltés\, (ii) historical details identified along the way\, (iii) technical details for interested pilgrims and (iv) Government’s vision in utilizing the Camino Maltés as a vehicle to promote Malta’s multi-millennial Christian faith and in expanding the Archipelago’s potential as an international hub for faith tourism. \nWe’d love to have you with us at the event. This is a historic walk from Citta Notabile (Mdina) to Le Terre di Santa Caterina (Zejtun). \nWe park our cars in Zejtun (near St. Gregory’s church) at 07:30 a.m. and coach transport will take us to Mdina leaving Zejtun for Mdina at 07:45 a.m. For those not requiring transport\, we meet in Mdina Cathedral Square for a 08:30 a.m. start. \nA non-refundable deposit of €5 – €10 is requested to reserve your place. If you wish to walk with us\, get a credencial and certificate then the contribution would be €5.
