Malta is fortunate enough to have been at the receiving end of several illustrious European artists who embellished our fortifications, palaces, and churches. One who stands out among these is undoubtedly Michelangelo Merisi, who gave Malta two significant masterpieces, “The beheading of St. John” and “The Writing of St. Jerome”.
During this short trip to Rome, we explore Merisi’s time in Rome before coming to Malta, where he also left several masterpieces now in, for example, Galleria Borghese, Capitoline Museums, Galleria Doria Pamphili, Palazzo Barberini and the churches of San Luigi dei Francesi and Santa Maria del Popolo. The event is a leisurely 4-day urban trek with ample time to take in the beauty of the eternal city.
